Author’s events to be as good as Chocolat

Joanne Harris, the UK-based author of ‘Chocolat’, will participate in four events at the Open Book Festival which starts late next week.

Harris, who has published 13 novels, a collection of short stories and two cookbooks, will launch A Cat, a Hat, and a Piece of String on the opening day of the festival next Thursday at 8.15pm at The Fugard Theatre. Tickets are R30.

On Friday, September 21, she and fellow authors Esi Edugyan and Lionel Shriver will discuss their writing at the Book Club Morning at The Book Lounge from 10 to 11am. Mervyn Sloman will chair this free event.

Also on Friday, from 4 to 5pm, she and Marlene van der Westhuizen will talk about the French food they love and the books that have resulted from that at the Fugard First. Tickets are R30.

Her final event is on Saturday from 10 to 11am at the Fugard Studio. She will talk to YOU Magazine’s Jane Vorster about her latest novel Peaches for Monsieur le Curé, which was published this year. Tickets are R30.
