Scatalog; Quick ID Guide to Southern Africa animal droppings

by Kevin Murray.

(Struik Nature, R40)

When I first saw this book I laughed. It is such a strange subject to discuss, but even stranger is the fact that every animal’s dropping looks different.

Most nature lovers will know the obvious ones you see as you walk in the wild, like impala and elephant.

Each group, carnivores, primates, antelope, rats, mice, reptiles, birds, insects and related species and tortoises are introduced, but it’s the life-size photos that are the main focus. There is a ruler on the back cover as well as tables on size and content to help you with the identification.

As long as you have this little book, that will fit in your top pocket, you will be able to recognise the droppings from the largest elephant to the minutest mouse.

I have never read so much crap in my life. But seriously, see nature from a completely different view!
