Durban — Police are investigating a case of murder after a man, believed to be a taxi boss, was gunned down on Monday afternoon.
Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that it is alleged that on Monday at 1.10pm, a 63-year-old man was at the car wash in Inanda Road in Newlands East when he was fatally shot by four unknown suspects.
“The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds on the body. A case of murder was opened at Newlands East police station for investigation.”
KZN VIP spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said that the incident took place at Nitro Carwash & Autovalet.
Naidoo said that their control centre received information about a shooting in Inanda Road and all available KZN VIP response and tactical units were immediately dispatched to the scene.
He said on their arrival they found that the man, believed to be a taxi owner, had been shot multiple times and he was declared dead shortly thereafter.
Naidoo said witnesses on the scene could not confirm how man suspects there were, “however, they fled in a blue (VW) Polo (registration unconfirmed). Members of the public also informed KZN VIP tactical and response officers that it was taxi-related.”
