DURBAN - The Kloof and Highway SPCA has shared footage of the organisation releasing the African rock python that was rescued last week in Molweni.
According to a Facebook post by the SPCA, last Wednesday the inspector who rescued the python, Inspector Israel Silevu, and another inspector, Petros Simamane, released the python.
“As promised, the next day Inspector Israel Silevu and Inspector Petros Simamane, walked for about four hours to release him after discussing a release sight with Ezemvelo Rangers,” the Kloof and Highway SPCA said.
The organisation said the snake will be safe now and will live in the perfect place for an African rock python.
It thanked the community again for calling the SPCA to rescue the snake and the inspectors for carrying it carefully so it can be released.
Last week, the Daily News reported that Inspector Israel Silevu, from the Kloof and Highway SPCA, responded to one of his most favourite calls on Tuesday – the rescue of an African rock python, the SPCA wrote on its Facebook page.
When Silevu arrived, he “saw the most beautiful and healthy African rock python”. It was taken to the Kloof and Highway SPCA for a check-up.
“When he was measured, he was 3.4m long and weighed 19.48kg,” the SPCA said.
Kloof and Highway SPCA manager Barbara Patrick said Inspector Israel Silevu had a passion for snakes and was very experienced in handling snakes.
She said the snake was in good health. It was kept overnight before being released into the wild at a safe location, away from people, on Wednesday.
