Durban — Two wanted suspects are expected to appear in court soon after they were arrested by off-duty officers at the weekend.

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that on Saturday at 9am, an off-duty police officer received information regarding a wanted murder suspect linked to an incident at Hibberdene in May 2022.

She said the officer was with two other off-duty police officers and together they followed up on the information and traced the wanted suspect to Gamalakhe township on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

“The suspect was with two other men and they were said to be armed,” Ngcobo said.

The police officers requested backup from Gamalakhe SAPS and the Port Shepstone K9 Unit, she said.

“When the three men spotted the police officers, they fled in different directions. Police managed to catch one suspect who was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as 13 capsules of heroin,” Ngcobo said.

The police officers continued to search for the outstanding suspects and the one who was wanted for murder was traced to a house in Gamalakhe where he was found hiding.

“He was found in possession of a firearm, ammunition and 11 bags of crystal meth,” Ngcobo said.

The suspects, aged between 31 and 41 were detained at Gamalakhe SAPS and charged for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition as well as possession of drugs.

Ngcobo said they were expected to appear in court soon.
