Durban - Two men were arrested for bribery and the possession of dagga and drugs.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said that on Saturday at 10am, police officers from eThekwini District were conducting a roadblock on M35 in Folweni when they stopped a vehicle with two male occupants.
“A search was conducted and suspects were found with 17 bags of dagga and Xanax tablets in their vehicle. The suspects also attempted to bribe police officers and were charged for bribery and possession of dagga and drugs,” Gwala said.
The suspects are aged 29 and 36 and they appeared in the Umbumbulu Magistrate’s Court earlier this week.
More information from a source said that according to eThekwini district communications officer, Captain Carmen Rhynes, the police members noticed a white VW Polo trying to evade driving through the said roadblock. Members quickly followed the vehicle and managed to stop it.
Two occupants were in the vehicle with 17 black rubbish bags piled in their vehicle. On enquiry of what was in the bags, it was discovered the bags were full of dagga. The members immediately arrested the two occupants and upon searching them, they found a further 10 Xanax tablets inside transparent plastic on one of the suspects and R6 250 cash was found in their possession.
The passenger quickly advanced money with an aim of bribing police members who immediately reacted with a clear refusal.
