Durban - Four armed suspects prowling the Durban city at night are expected to appear in court for robbing a man on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that at about 7.45pm, police officers from Durban Central responded swiftly to a report of a robbery at Joe Slovo Street and arrested four suspects aged between 18 and 24 for armed robbery.
Ngcobo said the suspects will appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
“According to the victim, he was walking on Joe Slovo when a vehicle with four occupants approached him. Two of the suspects accosted him before demanding cash and his cellphone at gunpoint. They stole his cellphone and cash before they fled in their vehicle,” Ngcobo said.
She said the matter was then reported to the Durban Central police station for investigation.
“The victim was able to provide police officers with a description of the suspects as well as their vehicle. Police officers began to conduct a search for the suspects and their vehicle was spotted on Victoria Street. The police officers intercepted the vehicle and the victim’s cellphone was recovered. The victim was able to positively identify all four suspects,” Ngcobo explained.
“The vehicle used by the suspects did not have any registration plates and was seized by police. The suspects were arrested for armed robbery.”
