Durban - Four people were trapped in a vehicle after it plunged down a washed-away road on Tuesday night on the M4 near Desainager, north of Durban.
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Tongaat said that at 8pm, it received multiple calls for assistance.
“CERT volunteers together with emergency services were dispatched and upon arrival found a vehicle lying on its roof with four occupants entrapped,” it said.
“CERT volunteers managed to free the occupants before being treated by CERT volunteers together with paramedics from Medi Response and IPSS Medical Rescue.”
Medi Response spokesperson Paul Herbst said members of CERT were quick to arrive on the scene and managed to free four people from the vehicle, which had landed on its roof.
“Medi Response and Lenmed eThekwini hospital paramedics worked to stabilise the injured,” Herbst said.
“Two persons sustained critical injuries whilst a further two were moderately injured.”
CERT said that the occupants were unfamiliar with the area and did not know that the road had been washed away.
