Durban — The British Cultural and Heritage Association has called on KwaZulu-Natal musicians to partake in the Music en Masse 2022 concert.
Music en Masse, which has been included in Durban’s annual musical calendar, is set to take place on September 4, at DLI Hall in Greyville.
Through the orchestral concert, the association hopes to serve the interests of arts, culture and musical education in Durban by bringing together musicians and anyone who can read and play music.
According to the British Cultural and Heritage Association, the concert would fulfil one of its roles in the local community.
“The vision of this concert is to provide a platform for all musicians, young and old, to develop their skills. This will provide an opportunity for amateur musicians to play as part of a full orchestra in an official concert and to facilitate the advancement and development of cultural activities and arts,” said the association.
The concert will feature a public performance by a massed orchestra, under the baton of Russell Scott.
This will also include a varied programme of orchestral favourites, eclectic musical numbers, interludes by guest artists, a pipe band and a pre-performance programme by marimba players.
The association’s co-ordinator, Cheri Steenberg said: “We are delighted to be able to prove a unique afternoon function for the entertainment of Durban residents which contributes to the development of the arts in KZN by making the concert a participative afternoon of support for young musicians and in so doing, stimulating an interest in and an enthusiasm for orchestral music in Durban.”
To participate, musicians are required to pay a nominal fee of R60 while the audience can book the tickets at Quicket.
