Durban - Former eThekwini councillor Xolani Nala has died in a car crash.
Details were yet to be made available on Monday.
Nala was the eThekwini DA councillor in ward 23, Reservoir Hills and Clare Estate before the November 2021 local government elections.
He had recently joined ActionSA.
A statement by ActionSA KZN chairperson Musa Kubheka said: “ActionSA in KwaZulu-Natal is saddened by the untimely passing of Xolani Nala who joined the party formerly on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. ActionSA contacted the family and confirmed that Nala, a former eThekwini DA councillor in Ward 23, was involved in a car accident in the early hours of this morning. Nala succumbed to his injuries at the scene.”
ActionSA conveyed condolences to the Nala family, the community of eThekwini, and eShowe where Nala was born.
“ActionSA was looking forward to working with a young man who had taken it upon himself to not give up on his country but rather join forces with like-minded people in a bid to ultimately fix South Africa,” Kubheka said.
ActionSA in KZN requested the Nala family be afforded the opportunity to deal with this tragedy with dignity and respect.
Close friend, colleague, and former DA proportional representative councillor Sagar Singh said he was saddened by the incident and passed on his condolences to the family.
On Facebook, Nala’s wife Ntombezinhle Zinhle KamaYimba Ndebele wrote: “The burden is so big on my shoulders. I am the one attending the scene though. You covered the world, rest in peace my husband. There will never be anyone like you.’’
