Durban — Port Shepstone police opened a case of attempted rape and kidnapping after a 3-year-old child was allegedly taken into nearby bushes at her home in Louisiana by a man and sexually assaulted.

That was according to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, who said the child’s mother heard the child crying and called for help.

“The community allegedly assaulted the suspect, who was taken to hospital under police guard,” Ngcobo said.

“He appeared in absentia in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on October 24.”

A private security company, PT Alarms in Port Shepstone, said its reaction officer worked swiftly to apprehend the alleged rapist in Louisiana, Port Shepstone.

It is alleged that assistance was requested via the community police forum group in Louisiana where it was reported that a suspect had raped a child. It was further alleged that the suspect was still in the vicinity of the crime scene, PT Alarms said.

“The PT Alarms reaction officer sprang into action and managed to apprehend the suspect. Furious community members attempted to mete out mob justice to the suspect but he was swiftly removed and handed over to the police.”

“The little victim and suspect had to receive medical attention,” PT Alarms said.
