Durban — Chatsworth police officers were the latest to be honoured for service excellence.
Station commander Brigadier Ruth de Villiers recently awarded members with certificates of commendation for service excellence.
Police said that her recognition serves as motivation and appreciation to SAPS members for their crime-fighting efforts and who relentlessly strive towards enhancing service delivery.
Task Team members received recognition for excellent execution of their duties that resulted in the successful arrest of four suspects who were in possession of four unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
De Villiers commended Detective Warrant Officer Alvin Arthur, who was the lead investigator in a fraud docket. The Durban Regional Court judge sentenced the accused to serve a six-year sentence for fraud. The accused, who was employed as the human resources manager at a shoe company, reportedly embezzled funds to the value of more than R5 million, police said.
Detective Sergeant Khambule was also commended for the sterling investigation conducted in two dockets. Accused Nkosiphile Abdingo Majola, 41, was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for murder. In a separate docket, the accused was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment for culpable homicide.
“The recognition of the SAPS members also allows for peers to exchange best practices and motivate each other to continue contributing positively towards delivering much improved policing services to the people of this country,” the police said.
The police said let us all strive to serve our communities to the best of our abilities all the time. Let us all recommit ourselves to reducing crime levels in an effort to build a South Africa where all can feel and be safe.
“We salute you for your individual and collective contributions to policing, and for serving and protecting the people of South Africa,” the police said.
