Durban — The body of a man was found with stab wounds to the leg and arm and assault wounds on his back in Merebank, south of Durban, on Wednesday morning.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said that at 7.50am, Wentworth police received a complaint of a body that was lying on the side of the road on Himalayas Road in Merewent.
“On arrival, they found the body with multiple injuries. Paramedics were called to the scene and he was declared dead on the scene. He has not been identified,” Gwala said.
“A case of murder was opened at Wentworth SAPS and the matter is under investigation.”
PT Alarms said the body was discovered by a passer-by.
“PT ambulance and EMS paramedics were on the scene and declared the male deceased.
“The deceased male sustained stab wounds to his leg and arm and assault marks on his back,” PT Alarms said.
“An open manhole with fibre cables was discovered in the vicinity of where the body was found,” added PT Alarms.
The company said it is unknown if the man was implicated in taking fibre cables.
“The circumstances surrounding the man’s death are unknown and police are investigating further,” PT Alarms said.
