Durban - Phoenix police are investigating a case of murder after an alleged taxi owner was shot dead while cleaning his taxi at a garage.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said a murder case was opened at Phoenix police station for investigation.
“It is alleged that on June 3, 2022, at 10.50pm a 42-year-old man was at Risegate in Phoenix cleaning his taxi when an unknown man alighted from his vehicle and shot the victim four times. He sustained injuries to the head and shoulder,” Gwala said.
“The suspects sped off in an unknown direction.”
Gwala added that the motive of the killing was unknown.
KZN VIP Protection Services responded to the scene and said that the incident happened in a local fuel station in the Phoenix area.
Spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said KZN VIP responded to reports of rapid gunfire in the Southgate area.
“Upon arrival of members one person sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body,” Naidoo said.
“(The) KZN VIP ambo responded and sadly declared the patient deceased, as he was fatally wounded.”
Naidoo said it was alleged that the suspects were African males in a silver VW Polo.
Commenting in a Facebook post, Rowland Peters said the victim was Mr Shandu of the taxis branded Men In Love.
