Durban – The emergency services fraternity is mourning the death of their own, Nazir Sadack, who was part of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
Sadack was also the oThongathi Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson and a CERT founding member.
On Tuesday, news of his death spread on social media, where tributes have been shared.
IPSS Medical Rescue and IPSS Search and Rescue said the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast had lost a pillar of the community.
“Nazir Sadack was a man who dedicated his life to serving and giving back to his greater community. IPSS have worked beside this selfless man for many years, and the loss will be felt by all,” IPSS said.
“To the Sadack family, friends and CERT KZN volunteers, we stand beside you during this difficult time and hope that we can all live up to the legacy he leaves behind.”
Medi-Rescue EMS and Empire Protection Services said: “In loving memory of a genuine community hero. Your steadfast dedication, limitless compassion, and unselfish spirit have made an unforgettable impression on every one of us. No matter what time of day it was or what problems nature threw your way, you were always there to aid. Your dedication to the community went far beyond words; your actions demonstrated a heart full of generosity and a strong feeling of duty to others.”
The service thanked Sadack for all he had done, not just at CERT, but in many other roles he had filled.
“Your legacy of service and love will continue to inspire everyone.”
Start Rescue said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the Sadack family during this difficult time. We will never forget the impact Nazir had on all of us and the world around him.”
Tongaat CPF said: “Nazir was a dedicated and invaluable asset to the Tongaat community for the past 10 years. His unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community made him a pillar of strength and a beacon of hope for many. Nazir was a dedicated member and he contributed countless hours to search-and-rescue operations through CERT, which was his true passion.
“His legacy is one of compassion, resilience and service to others, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His loss leaves a void that will be felt throughout the community, but his contributions will continue to inspire us for years to come.
“As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the life of a man who dedicated himself to making Tongaat a safer and better place for everyone.”
The Durban North CPF said: “Naz was a dedicated CPF member and dedicated many hours assisting search-and-rescue operations through CERT, which was his passion.
“He was a man of integrity and honour. A true servant and was well-known to our uMdloti members. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.”
Urvashi Singh said: “An incredible soul who gave his life in selfless service to our communities with distinction, often being on the scene of an emergency, robbery, disaster or accident well before the authorities, at any time of the day or night. May we all take a leaf out of his book and let his legacy of selfless service live on in our community. May his soul merge with the Supreme Absolute. Love and light to his family.”
Anamika Maharaj said: “May you be blessed Nazir … for all eternity. You leave a void in our lives that can never be filled. We all salute you, dear friend.”
According to social media posts, Sadack’s funeral service is to be held this afternoon (Tuesday) at Gandhi’s Hill Mosque.
