Durban — Local fashion designers continue to benefit from the access to market opportunities provided by the eThekwini Municipality’s Fashion Development Programme under which there is an iconic annual Durban Fashion Fair (DFF).
The 13th instalment of the DFF-themed “Coming of Age” under way at The Station Urban Event Space is no different as they showcased their collection to several potential buyers and industry experts. The showcase was kick-started on Wednesday and will wrap up on Friday.
Established buyers who attend the DFF to scout for new talent include Pick ‘n Pay Clothing, Edgars, Foschini, The Hub, and Contempo.
The fashion entrepreneurs – who kicked off the DFF, showcasing their latest designs much to the delight of fashion enthusiasts – were Nkosazane, Nox Couture, Vallure, Lorre, Karen Monk Klinjstra, Yatsar, Carita Adams and 8th Wanda.
Also showcasing on the first day were Karla Lortan, Libo Creations, EYC Couture, Kireshen Chetty, Ntsasa Creations, Earth Tones Designs and Sista Felas.
Makhosi Ntshangase of Sista Felas said she will forever be grateful to the eThekwini Municipality for availing such exposure platforms to local designers.
The City’s Economic Development and Planning Committee Whip, Councillor Puleng Hlomuka, said she was wowed by the quality showcased on the first day of the DFF.
“It is good to see the City’s investment yielding great strides. We see dedication, self-driven and hard-working individuals which are key skills of a successful entrepreneur.”
