Durban — The KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Sipho Hlomuka announced the 50-day countdown starting on September 1, to the start of the Final 2024 National Senior Certificate Examinations (NSC) on October 21.
The department urged learners, parents, and educators to intensify their preparations and work collectively to improve educational outcomes in the province. They also revealed to Daily News that the preliminary statistics for candidates’ registration will be completed at the end of September and stand as follows for now:
- Full candidates: 172 433
- Part candidates: 18 019
- Provincial candidates: 190 452
Pupils were also encouraged to utilise the matric support study booklets designed by the department to assist in preparing for the exams, which commence on October 21.
The department also reported that many of their schools are going the extra mile in studying even during weekends and that the Ohlange Cluster of schools in Inanda Central Circuit, Pinetown District, conducted weekend classes, providing learners with revision learning opportunities and reinforcing the cluster's dedication to academic excellence and learner success.
Ikusasalentsha Secondary School in Inanda Central, Pinetown District, demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence by hosting weekend classes, and providing learners with additional learning opportunities and support to succeed.
Grade 12 Learners at Hillview Secondary School in Pinetown District engaged in intensive extra classes August 31, focusing on key subjects: mathematics, physics, and English. To fuel their academic endeavours, a sponsored lunch was provided, demonstrating the school’s commitment to supporting learners’ success.
At Matheku Secondary School in King Cetshwayo District, pupils pushed boundaries in maths, business studies, physical science, and history. Excellence is the goal for NSC 2024.
“Let us use the remaining 50 days fruitfully, and ensure that every learner who sits for the 2024 NSC exams succeeds,” said MEC Hlomuka.
