Cape Town - A Gauteng school principal who allegedly lied about a protest in action, resulting in 54 candidates not showing up for their National Senior Certificate (NSC) exam, is in hot water.
This as service delivery protests affected more than 1 000 matric pupils across the country since the start of exams.
The principal of Phandimfundo Secondary School in Gauteng East District allegedly advised the candidates not to appear for Economics paper 1.
The principal apparently also misdirected the provincial authority.
Department of Basic Education spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga said the district will initiate a disciplinary proceeding against the principal.
More than 1000 candidates from Nkangala District in Mpumalanga missed their Maths and Maths Literacy paper 2 exams owing to a community protests on Monday.
Mhlanga said the morning session proceeded well on Tuesday in all centres in the province with no disruptions as police intervened monitoring and clearing roads for access.
“The district offices mobilised to ensure that the learners are assisted. The department has called upon all schools to reopen in the area as the situation has returned to normal. There was also a late start of the examination in the North West due to the community protest. Once again the department appeals to members of the public to help protect the examinations in every way possible,” said Mhlanga.
The department is expected to make an announcement regarding the next steps to be taken for all candidates who missed exams through no fault of their own.
