Cape Town - A truck carrying goods was looted of its cargo after hitting rocks allegedly placed in the roadway in Dunoon on Friday morning.
According to armed response service District Watch, which was first on the scene, the truck driver had detailed how he had continued to drive as far as he could, but eventually had to pull over.
“The suspects then ran across the N7 and began to loot the truck,” they said.
“A taxi had unfortunately also hit some of the rocks, which caused it to roll. There were two occupants, and one male occupant was trapped under the taxi.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said police were investigating the incident.
"A truck was looted at about 1am on the N7 after it drove over obstacles in the road and was forced to stop. Another vehicle also drove over the obstacles and overturned. Three males in their thirties were robbed of their belongings and the driver of the vehicle was taken to a medical facility for treatment due to injuries sustained. No arrests were made. The investigation into the matter continues,” Twigg said.
Dunoon community activist Andile Peter said crime was prevalent in their community.
“We, as the community and the taxi industry, need to come together and see how we deal with such matters. The sooner the government builds a wall in that vicinity, the better for the safety of the road users,” Peter said.
