Cape Town – Free State police have urged the public not to share the video clip in which a toddler is seen to be mauled by two pit bulls in Hennenman on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng confirmed that the owner of the two pit bulls, which mauled 3-year-old Keketso Innocent Saule to death, would also be investigated.
“An inquest was registered for further investigation, and there will be an additional charge under the Animals Amendment Act – Keeping of Vicious Dogs. A thorough investigation will be conducted regarding the circumstances which led to the two pit bulls killing the boy.
“We have noted with concern a clip that is making the rounds on social media platforms where the two dogs are seen killing the deceased.
“Residents must refrain from doing it. This gesture must stop with immediate effect,” said Thakeng.
Keketso was killed by two pit bulls at Sekoti Mpate Phomolong in Hennenman, Free State, on Sunday at about 8.15am.
Thakeng said on Sunday that angry residents wanted to kill both dogs and attacked the owner of the two pit bulls.
“Members of Welkom Public Order Policing were summoned to the scene and removed the owner to a safe place. Residents attacked the dogs and one of them was killed with garden spades, hit with stones and ultimately burnt to death. The other pit bull was taken by the SPCA for safe keeping,” Thakeng said.
