Civil and structural engineering jobs in the Architecture & Engineering job sector are the most in-demand jobs in South Africa, according to the Pnet Job Market Trends Report October 2024.

The report offers insights into South Africa’s recruitment and employment trends.

The second and third most in-demand jobs are Infrastructure/Operations Consulting jobs in the Business & Management job sector and Personal Assistant jobs in the Admin, Office & Support job sectors.

Nursing / Professional Care-giving jobs in the Medical & Health job sector are the fourth most in-demand jobs followed by Logistics Management jobs in the Warehousing & Logistics job sector.

According to the report, recruitment activity in SA continued to slow down in September. Month-on-month local hiring activity was decreased by 5% from August to September 2024.

Year-on-year, hiring activity dropped by 6%, when comparing September 2023 to September 2024. The trend for the two-year comparison reveals that recruitment activity has decreased by 17% compared to September 2022.

Province by province

In Mpumalanga, there was a demand for professionals in the Sales; Business & Management; and Manufacturing & Assembly job sectors.

The report showed that Mpumalanga is seeing a growing demand for Sales professionals, with an uptake in hiring activity for sales roles of +33% over July, August, September 2024 in comparison to April, May, June 2024.

Year-on-year, the demand for Sales professionals increased by 3% in Mpumalanga.

For the KwaZulu-Natal province, there was a demand professionals in the following job sectors: Business & Management; Finance; Admin, Office & Support; and Sales

Hiring activity in KwaZulu-Natal grew by 15% for Business & Management professionals over July, August, September 2024 in comparison to April, May, June 2024.

Year-on-year, there has been a 25% increase in recruitment for Business & Management professionals in this province.

The Pnet Job Market Trends Report September 2024 offered a snapshot into the Architecture and Engineering job sector.

According to the report, people that have jobs in the Architecture & Engineering sector stay in their roles for an average of two years and eight months.

The report showed that Civil Engineers can earn between R51,973 to R68,056 while salaries Electrical Engineers range from R49,071 to R61,241 and an Industrial Engineer can make between R34,567 to R39,394
